Not sure who Dementor/DNCR is referencing, but Chicago is at the very heart of the Rust Belt.

If Chicago isn't Rust Belt, then nothing is.

Yes, it's doing somewhat better than some smaller cities, but the Census lists Chicago as 1. Highest population loss since 2000 and 2. Highest job loss since 2000.

It's a small wonder it took to the second page for anyone to mention Houston. That's OK, we had to avoid the housing bubble one way or another and if being hot, flat and boring does the trick, then all the better. Although that didn't work for Florida somehow.

Top 5 Least Likely To Be My Zipcode, In No Order

1. Memphis- crime rates, school scores

2. Atlanta- sheer size and the issues that go with same {traffic, real estate prices, COL in general} state homeschooling laws are the most archaic

3. Detriot- Unemployment rates even pre-recession, school scores, COLD

4. Anywhere, CA- COL

5. Anywhere, FL and adjoining areas- roaches so big they have their own special name to make them seem less icky. Not that it does.

Gosh, for some reason Midwest cities dont fair to well at city-data forumns. Dont know why. Even Indy doesnt seem to do well. Nonetheless, the top 5 cities I would not want to live (if I can only pick 5) are:

San Francisco
Las Vegas
Miami
New York
Los Angeles
