I seriously doubt it; anyway, I think comparing a city to a vast region is comparing apples and oranges.

And what on earth makes you think this happens in Pittsburgh?

It's tough to say. It seems in a lot of ways, the areas are the same, but Pittsburgh much bigger in terms of metro(Something like 2.5 million vs. 750,000). As a person that grew up in Syracuse and still lives in the area, it's not a bad city or area to grow up in at all. Pretty safe, good schools, the people are generally down to earth and friendly, affordable and is in a good location.

I've never been to Pittsburgh, but it actually seems like a city or area I could "get down" with too.

I'm really biased with this one. So I'll just make one comment: Appalachia scares me.

And yes, I've been to Pittsburgh.... lived close by for two long years.

we have megachurches in Pittsburgh where religion controls the politics? Wow, I keep learning new things about my city every day. I didn't know that.

The rivers are not dirty. I have been rowing in the Three Rivers for 5 years and the water is absolutely fine. Rowing has become a huge sport in Pittsburgh precisely because people realize what a great asset the rivers are. I don't know what your problem is but you really shouldn't make fun of someplace you know nothing about, especially as a moderator.

Shame on you.

Yeah, if fact, our rivers are so clean that certain variety of shrimp that need the cleanest water live, even in the Mon.

You just got to let ignorant comments roll off on this forum. I have a hard time to do so also though. Many comments like "The Appalacians scare me so I don't want to go there", or "I never been there, but I hear ______________" are very typical on this forum.

I really wish more people where like me and wanted to travel everywhere, and go with a open mind and see what a certain city has to offer. But most on this forum are not like that, even the moderators.

I drank tap water out of the Ohio River and it certainly was not clean.

I loath the hills of Appalachia. I know that's my opinion, but I know I'm not alone in my view. Those hills create a depressing environment and an isolating effect not felt anywhere else in the country.

Almost feel sorry for Pittsburgh. Growing a large city in the middle of Appalachia is an uphill battle.
