I don't think this question is even close. Focusing on skylines seems silly (and betrays a sort of phallic obsession). Quality of life and culture is what matters most when comparing cities, and on that front, LA is ahead of Houston by a mile. If you travel the world, people have actually heard of Los Angeles, not so much for Houston.
Uhh, no it is not ahead by miles, but keep on dreaming

Houston has a way more mature skyline. L.A. is pathetic for a 3.5 million city (think chicago)
Thats true But has they say skylines dont make your city better than the other. TOO me no city is better than than another city. Ive been to LA and Houston I wouldnt stay in niether for one LA reminded me of back home( Miami). I would only move to Houston for work but its too far from the East coast and all my favorite places to go are on the east coast

I wouldn't live in a city because of its skyline though. I'll live there if it offers more than the other and just has more to do. That's why I chose LA.
Skyline is just a minor factor about what makes cities nice.

I'm surprised you even have an opinion conseidering you haven't been to either city!
As a big city, Houston offers much the same as L.A. just on a leaner scale.
In fact, I've been around BOTH cities...and Houston is actually more culturally mature in the high arts sense. I mean, you can see well-dressed people of ALL AGES out for a higher standard entertainment night in the Theater District. In areas of L.A., that I've had the opportunity to meander around, since I used to live in SoCal for a fewyears, such as the Sunset Strip, Old Town Pasadena and Santa Monica...not so much.
Houston's got the spread out nightlife like L.A. out in the nocturnal sprawl, it doesn't matter if there's more of it in Los Angeles...it doesn't diminish what Houston offers.
What I see in the SG Valley for diverse Asian fare...Houston's New Chinatown offers that too. And Houston's New Chinatown is even MORE diverse (think Nigerian, Pakistani fare included and such which are missing in L.A.'s Chinatowns or nearby).
I've always thought of Houston as a leaner version of L.A., take it or leave it. The California snobs ought to realize that it's kinda neat to have these cities like Houston away from the West Coast. I like it here in H-town and don't miss living in SoCal. Some things, indeed, but am happier overall in Houston.
