There are definitely many butt-ass ugly streetscapes in LA. Lincoln, Santa Monica Blvd (outside of Weho) and almost any big street in the Valley besides Ventura come to mind...
Again, I don't think that LA boosts harder than other cities on this site. We don't try to present an idealized version of our city any more than anywhere else. In the early days of this thread, I responded to a bunch of pictures of gritty, bleak pictures of Houston and mentioned that I thought it was cool that people in Houston appreciated the "ugliness." It turns out they weren't trying to do that... I think honestly Houston really is a pretty ugly city outside of the downtown skyline shots and some tree-lined historic residential neighborhoods. It would be great if Houstonians embraced that more, like I've seen with the "keep houston ugly" stickers.. but it doesn't appear to be so. I'm still not sure, but Worldlyman might be one of those who appreciates the ugly/incoherent/unkempt/messy.
LA has ugliness like this in spades, and there are tons of fans (there are even books about "everyday urbanism" and "looking at los angeles" that almost fetishize the disorderly junkiness of a place like Santee Alley).
Some pics of "ugly LA":
mmmm power lines

Beautiful!
LOLOL!!! This is the same kind of craziness you'd see in Houston. I love it. I love the mix of gritty (ugly to some) runover looking streets. I also love the glossy, pristine look of Houston's skyline.
I've always been fascinated by LA simply from the photos over the years. I've never been there. Honestly, from some of the shots I've seen on this website, sometimes I can't tell the difference between the two cities.

That's what I love about Houston. I think the grittiness and ugliness of it makes it much more unique and interesting. [Not speaking about comparing to LA, but in general].

Don't you mean the lack of development in and around the city? BTW why is this thread still going on? LA mops the floor with Houston just in its city limits against the whole Houston metro

I've never heard you call Houston ugly. That's usually my job.
