Or better yet, any New Englanders want to send some down??? I'll send ya a bagel or pizza in return
Well I will be back in Rhode Island in 3 mo and my first stop will be the Point Judith Chowder hall in Point Judith R.I. , and yes they only serve Manhatten style , but I have to say it will be worth driving the 3,000 mi to get a bowl of It and their clam cakes , Oh my mouth is wattering already, was raised on it , although there are some good New England chowder spots there. or i think they are still in bsiness . Will have to wait and see.

New England style is the the only style for me. I had the red clam soup and I didn't really like it.

When I was looking at colleges in Maine, we stopped at this little seafood restaurant in the middle of nowhere. I was really craving NE clam chowder since we were up there. It was pretty disgusting. The can kind was better. I guess it's a hit or miss with restaurants in NE. I was pretty disappointed by that experience. But I did continue to keep looking for good chowder when I went to school in Maine. I remember a couple places made it well.

Yes.
Legal Seafood is even popular in New England where there is a lot of competition for the seafood dollar.

I would have to add that Legal's chowder is not my favorite. That would be The Sail Loft on the Boston Waterfront.
It's thick and they put dill in it. Holy Crap is it good!

Next time stop and ask someone where to get the best chowder. It's too important to just arbitrarily choose a place.

The best I ever had was neither. It was at a restaurant in Murrell's Inlet, SC. It was a puree and had a golden cast to it...absolutely delicious. I would love to have the recipe.

Has anyone ever had Hatteras clam chowder?

Clams & their juice
celery
potatoes
fresh black pepper

Simple and good
