From this statement, I would have to say you haven't spent enough time exploring The Hamptons. I spent every summer from birth through college going to the Jersey Shore, and dont get me wrong, Cape May is gorgeous, but it still doesn't compare. There is a very good reason I made the switch. And we still go to the Jersey Shore at least once every summer, so dont think I am dissing it in any way. There are many beautiful places to go there, but I think your statement that "Cape May is better than The Hamptons" is misguided, at best.

Take a ride around Georgica Pond, Further Lane, Lilly Pond Lane, etc, and you will see what I mean. Words cant possibly describe the beauty you will find there, so you will just have to take a trip to these areas if you REALLY want to speak from experience, and not out of pure loyalty to NJ. There is a reason the typical property in these areas costs in the TENS of millions, and the owners of the estates are a virtual who's who of Hollywood and Wall Street.

Hey those are beautiful pictures, no doubt.
I will admit, I've only been to the Hamptons once, but I've actually only been to Cape May twice..

The Hamptons is a Pristine, ritzy beach town that's fantastic, but there's a charm in Cape May that The Hamptons can't beat.

I dont know, we have a lot of windmills, bed & breakfasts, and other quaint, charming stuff. The villages were established in the 1600s, and many things haven't changed much. Not taking away from Cape May's charm, but again, you should spend a little more time in The Hamptons. There is more charm than you can shake a stick at.

I believe there are waterfront harbors in JC/Gold Coast that are as nice as some on LI, but LI most likely has far more.

As far as the beaches go, depends on where the NNJ/CNJ/SNJ lines are drawn.

Additionally, it's a safe bet to say that the Hamptons AND Cape May have their own respective charms.

I'm sorry, but it's comments like this that make my blood boil. NJ, North, South, and the mythical land of Central, all do have smelly parts, but on a whole, do not smell.

NJ's answer to the Hamptons is Cape May (and to a certain degree, Avalon). I would venture to say that North Jersey's answer to the Hampton's is Rumson (that and one of those towns I drove through once on my way from Long Branch to Sandy Hooke via 36(?)). Not quite on the beach, but kinda close Personally, I'd like to know North Jersey and LI's answer to Atlantic City. As for "Sleezeside", most people from NJ know better than to go there, and ask any local (such as one of my friends from college), it's mostly NYers.

NJ is not a joke, no state is a joke. People who say such ridiculous things really need to take a good look at the state that they are talking about. Here in NJ, the only part of our state, that I think we'll all agree on being a joke, is our government, but that goes for many states. To make such an ignorant comment, will quite possibly draw out the worst in the residents of that state. Insulting NJ as a means of trying to make LI better is a poor argument. This shouldn't be about NJ defending itself, but rather each area putting its best foot forward.

Very good post

This reminds me a lot of Avalon, where Oprah, the Heinz family, and many other people like that have summer homes (and by homes, I mean gigantic mansions). Mind you though, I'm jealous of you, and which my home was like that

I agree that that person doesn't have a clue what they're talking about but just to even the bolded out: Got anything that looks like this in NNJ?

Now NNJ is very beautiful but LI is equally beautiful imo.

1. Trashy NYers? I've actually never even been to Seaside Heights but then again I'm not trashy and I'm a NYer & a NJian (as well as a MDer)

2. I fully agree, I love the Jersey Shore but it's Central & Southern Jersey

3. Atlantic City isn't in North Jersey

4. Where's NNJ's answer to LI's beaches?

5. Northwestern Brooklyn & Northwestern Queens

Now I'm not taking sides but Long Island offers a lot believe it or not, it seems like some NYers are being arrogant and some NJians are being ignorant. Now I see it as one Metro that offers a lot, people are so stuck on arguing why they feel one is better, one would think it'd be just a simple comparison and which they like more.
The answer is that the Parkway BEGINS in NNJ!

What sets LI apart is the ocean! can't find the ocean in NNJ.
