LOL You're kidding right? What do you think most small Pizzerias do here in NYC and New Haven?
The best pizzas are baked in extremely hot ovens ranging from 650º F – 900ºF. This extreme heat allows the crust to spring & become flaky & crisp, while also allowing the cheese & tomato to cook quickly. Due to the extreme temperatures the crust will take on a charred appearance. This is the sign of a pizza baked in a hot oven & should not be thought of as burnt. Although the spots on the crust may be black, the quick baking produces a superficial char, which does not taste bitter, rather taking on a smoky & caramelized set of flavors …..yum!
Hey now! Seems Apizza Scholls figured out how to make New Haven Style Pizza.

Seriously though, they seem like a good place but it would be just another pizza joint on the corner here in CT. No offense.

They're trying to make it like NY pizza, not New Haven. NH pizza is kind of a different style than NY's. They have a NY pie they attempt to make.

For out there it's probably good, but like you said, in NY it's probably barely on par with local pizzerias.

I would sort of disagree as the hallmark of New Haven style pizza is a thinner crust with more "char" then NY style.

That's what I bolded in my post.

Either way, we both agree that while they seem to be doing good, it's par for the course around here.

The pizza in italy is nice because it's a "personal pan pizza" and there's a yummy pool of olive oil on top. The fresh mozz. is ok, but not salty enough for me!

But I was born and raised on a nice old slice, and I like them twice cooked--you ask for your slice, they pick it up and reheat it in the oven--nice and crispy.

Most people I know here don't like it when pizza is re-heated. I love it though, since it makes the crust real crispy. I like a crispy crust as opposed to it soft.

Funny you say that. The worst pizza I ever had was during my trip to SF last summer. I had it at North Beach Pizza and they were awarded a sign from Yahoo.com that said "Congratulations North Beach Pizza for servin' up the best pizza in San Francisco." I didn't even finish the crap and the waitress was an ******* to us even before I complained.

It's gotta be crispy.
