Since when the **** are the Devils and Islanders NYC teams?
For the record, the Devils do not represent NYC. They represent NJ. The Islanders represent Long Island. That is why they play in Nassau, and have the specific island in their logo. They are both largely irrelevant to NYC sports fans.
Strike two.
The New Jersey Nets are a lameduck castaway team thats played literally everywhere. They could very well battle for media supremacy from the Knicks now that theyre officially in Brooklyn. The arena in Brooklyn will be 100% capacity guaranteed.
Just like an Atlanta > Winnipeg situation.
It's all the Ny Area/Tri-state media market though and when it comes to professional sports that is what matters. It's all the same.
Of course support for the Devils will be stronger in NJ but they are still part of the same sports market. The Angels play in Orange County, still part of LA. The Raiders and A's play in Oakland, still part of Bay Area sports. People in NJ, CT, and Long Island root for the Yankees and Mets.
Amusing how to try to isolate teams and not count them as part of the NY sports market.
That crappy Kings team equaled the Rangers in attendance.
The Depressing Dodgers pulled more than the Mediocre Mets.
By your own criteria, you're objectively wrong.
What crappy Kings team? what the **** are you talking about?
The Rangers missed the playoffs for 7 years in a row and still finished at max capacity.
In fact, thanks for posting that actually, because it proves my point.
LA did not and has not ever finished higher than the Rangers in attendance as far back as that ESPN attendance goes, and LA missed the playoffs 6 years in a row and finished bottom third of the league most years.
Predictably, LA's attendance only spiked within the last two years because they became a better team.

The thread title reads "Better Sports City: NYC vs LA"
Does it say metro anywhere?
Want me to include the Ducks? That will only bring any sports case for LA down further. Especially attendance figures.
Or ill post something stupid like scrantiX did and say the metro NYC team beat the metro LA team in 2003, Devils over Ducks.

Do you not know how sports media markets work? The thread doesn't specify whether it's limited to just the city or metro and on this forum rarely is a thread limited to just city limits. Should we not count the Patriots for Boston, Rangers for Dallas, etc?
Go ahead and include the Ducks, especially if you're going include a team that play right next door to them as part of LA.

So we should stop at the city line? LOL

How could I forget, it doesn't say metro anywhere. Looks like NYC and LA have more in common than you thought because we're talking cities and not metro so the Giants and Jets aren't included since they play in NEW JERSEY!!

Yes bring the Ducks and Angels into this.

2003! It's 2012 now and NYC metro just got spanked in the @ss by LA for the Stanley Cup this year.
26th in 10-11
24th in 09-10
17th in 08-09
15th in 07-08
20th in 06-07 (the year they won the Cup)
24th in 05-06
Their capacity got better as the team got better, but when the team was bad, it was reflected in the decline in attendance, as I said.
The Knicks are on Cubs-like success levels, but consistently sell out and finish top of the heap. The Rangers missed the playoffs 7 years in a row, same thing.
