Which do you think is the best?

New York Suburbs:
- Central & Northern NJ, Long Island, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, and Fairfield counties.

Or Chicagoland (which I think is the coolest metro name)

Anything within city limits is off. So don't talk about "well rockland is closer to New York City" I don't want to hear that. Which do you think has the best housing, amenities, culture, nightlife, things to do, etc.

There simply is no better place to live than many of Chicago's suburbs. Traffic, though gridlocked, isn't as impossible as the New York area (probably because it's less dense than New York), it's cheaper, and there's a greater diversity of housing. You have newer suburbs like Schaumberg and kitschy, village-like suburbs like Wheaton. And the upscale communities that line Lake Michigan from the Wisconsin border are beautiful.

What I love about Chicagoland is that each community is, in a real way, self-contained. New York's suburbs are only amazing insofar as they are New York's suburbs. Most of Chicago's suburbs are great communities and villages in and of themselves--irrespective of their relation to Chicago. Take New York away and Far Rockaway is far from awesome. Naperville and Highland are great communities that would be a great place to live whatever the core city.

What are you talking about...there's villages all over in the NY suburbs. I'll upload some nice pictures when I get home. There's villages right on the water.

This is one category that Chicago easily beats NYC hands down... better and more abundant suburbs. There are over 300+ suburbs in Chicagoland, all of them has their own unique vibe and most of them are fantastic places to live, hence the reason theyve been booming ever since their birth.

Better in what way?

Better than Greenwich, New Canaan, Scarsdale, Alpine, etc. etc.? Chicago suburbs are not as nice, posh and as beautiful as the top New York City ones, at least the ones I've seen.

WOOO i'm lovin this thread.

I was born and raised and still live in the NYC metro... It just has a more diverse landscape; So NYC metro is my vote.
Though Chicagoland is my 2nd favorite metropolis

Plus, NYC has big cities outside of it's own city with great nightlife (Jersey City/Hoboken)

I'm stuck for which to vote for. I feel like NYC suburbs lack compared to Chicago's and SoCal. But you know what they say "the grass is always greener...."

But once I saw the Chicagoland suburb picture thread that area looked incredible. But then again I havent explored NYC's suburbs.

Strange. Chicago metro is 10M, New York metro is 20M and there is abundance of suburbs in Chicago and not in NYC?
