From my observations and even some Chicagoans on this very thread, it isn't very active. Most of the activity occurs just outside Downtown or going towards the North and West. DC is the same way.

There are some spots in Houston that stay open until 6-8. Some don't even close.

your downtown is going to be subjective to somebody from outside the city (in this case, most peoples views), as is suburbs to city, to an inner city dweller to downtown, to a centrally inner city dweller to midtown to downtown to uptown, etc.

Times Square is on 42nd st. Between about 30th st-59th st is midtown. I figured most tourists would know Times Square is midtown, I guess not.

Las Vegas is busier than NY at night. That is really the city that NEVER sleeps. At least the strip area. You have bars and things going on from late night until 8am in the morning where you can continue to party if you so please! hehe

True, it was pretty alive all hours of the night when I was there.

I suppose there would be a lull...the moniker 'City that never sleeps' conjures up that picture of New York bustling 24/7. NYC and Tokyo are still probably the most 24 hour cities out there.

Yeah, when I'm out late at night around 2am, there are still lots of people walking around. That other person doesn't know what they're talking about. I have been to Times Square lots and lots of times since I live close.
