Republicans win most of the high population counties in SC and close to 50 percent in Charleston County I believe.
Even if the urban area residents are majority Democrat, there are a ton of suburban Republicans working in the urban areas and in the downtown area after work and on weekends.
Main Street in Greenville would be pretty dead without Republican suburban residents going down there.
In 2016 Trump lost Charleston County 43-51, and Richland County (Columbia) 31-64. Yes, the other major SC counties tend to vote Republican, but those are two major exceptions. Of course they are certainly hospitable to workers and visitors who have a different political preference - Southern hospitality is alive and well.
A distinction within Minnesota is that St Paul and Duluth are "normal" liberal similar other liberal Midwestern cities while Minneapolis has more of the hard left types who are to the left of the Democrats. The Greens and the Socialist Action party have both been more competitive in Minneapolis city council races over the last couple decades than the Republicans. The Greens have consistently held at least one seat for years and Socialist Action has come within a few hundred votes twice.
St Cloud is conservative with fairly strong nativist/xenophobic tendencies while Rochester is moderate.
In the last Presidential Election, these were the top 5 MA towns for either candidate:
Clinton:
Cambridge: 89.2% Clinton | 6.5% Trump
Provincetown: 88.1% Clinton | 8.8% Trump
Brookline: 84.9% Clinton | 11.1% Trump
Somerville: 84.6% Clinton | 10.5% Trump
Amherst: 84.1% Clinton | 8.6% Trump
Trump:
Tolland: 61.9% Trump | 32.9% Clinton
Russell: 58.5% Trump | 33.9% Clinton
Blandford: 58% Trump | 36.8% Clinton
Southwick: 57.3% Trump | 36.1% Clinton
Granville: 57.2% Trump | 35% Clinton
In 2016, Nantucket (by a 65-30% margin), Raynham, and Seekonk (but neighboring Rehoboth and Swansea went to Trump) all went to Clinton. Westfield is the only CITY in MA that voted for Trump and that was by a 48-44% margin. So I guess you could say Westfield is the most conservative city and I'd say that much of Central MA and Southeast MA would be the more conservative regions. Take a look at the interactive map.
Yaa not so sure about Wellesley and Newton on that list
Liberal: Vegas, Reno (historically more libertarian), Nixon
Conservative: Carson City, Ely, Verdi, Douglas County
Libertarian: Most of the state?
