Considering that the strip is basically the whole reason that ones goes to vegas, whereas Times square is basically the lamest place in NYC that one tries to avoid at all costs....gotta say the strip.

Specifically what are you referring as Times Square? Would that include most of the theatres in Broadway? Without that Times Square seems mostly a big showcase of billboards, big screens, and big multistorey shopping complexes. A few comedy clubs, studios etc as well. The Strip of course beats Times Square for pure entertainment, but as an actual place to hang out, I'd rather be in Times Square and NY.

The Strip is littered with ugly hotels/casinos, like Excalibur and New York New York. Times Square is at least better-looking.

Totally voting Times Square in this comparison.

While I enjoyed the neon lights, lavish resorts and energy of Vegas' strip, I really didn't find anything that would occupy my interest longer than maybe 2-3 days and thereby entice me to return by choice for leisure honestly. Not an alcoholic, so the round the clock alcohol consumption option isn't terribly appealing. I sure as hell don't gamble so that's another strike, and I'm not engaged, so those mini-Chapels are cute and all, but that's about it.

Perhaps I was expecting to find a disproportionate amount of 'devilment options' given the city's nickname- something more in line with Bourbon I guess. Bourbon also gets old after a time, but the architecture and pockets of local culture are far more interesting than anything Vegas has to offer IMO. After a couple of days in Vegas, we left for LA.

I would rather live near Times Square but the LV Strip is way more fun and even more of a 24-hour environment in my experience.

I'm not too sure about the other side yet, I haven't been down there in a while. . . I'm sure by Summer 2011 both sides will be pedestrian only though. Yes, an absolute tourist theme-park.
Wow. that completely removes the coolness factor, to me.

I can understand why native New Yorkers don't like Times Square, but while some of us outsiders hate to be corny tourists, being in TS for the first time would be an awesome experience. Just to take pictures and look around. I would personally never stay in a hotel there or even eat at one of those restaurants, to be honest.

Well, despite incursions by Disney, Times Square is still a lot more real than the Strip. Let's face it: Las Vegas was a sleepy little town in the desert without much interest for anyone until casinos started showing up there. New York City has more things to do than you can shake a stick at, and we don't have any casinos!

If we're strictly basing this off time square vs the strip, I have to go with Las Vegas.

Gotta go Las Vegas Strip, proven to be "the brightest spot on Earth" when looked at from Space according to NASA.

It's absolutely Gargantuan compared to the several blocks of Times Square.
