Why did somebody bump a seven year old thread just to pimp NYC? It's not like that city needs any more pimping.
Anyway, I think Houston is a good candidate. That whole metro is like somebody took a bunch of paint cans and randomly sloshed them around together.
NYC, though diverse, I don't think is as integrated as New Yorkers would like you to believe. My dad is black and from New York and he's always told me that he was shocked that the Texas cities have turned out to be less racist and more integrated than NYC.

Seriously, NYC runs away with this by default. Numerically speaking, you will find every combination of couple possible, and will see minorities from the globe in positions not normally 'reserved' for them. The U.S. still sucks when it comes to race and racial integration, but NYC is clearly the best of the bunch.
How can you say this when for so long you have had neighborhoods defined by ethnicity and racial groups.
To this day you have neighborhoods where blacks dont dare go.Especially the Italian ones.
Even as some of those neighborhoods have now switched groups and replaced by another.
NYC is the most divere mut hardly integrated just like Toronto which is highly segregated.
Thjis is getting worse as blacks are leaving NYC in high numbers. Its just too expensive.

What? There is no NYC neighborhood that is off limits to black people.
And the city still has a huge black population.
Also, most neighborhoods these days aren't really defined by racial groups.
As much as I dislike Anchorage, I have to give it credit for actually doing comparatively well on this front, even as the city has seen a rapid increase in diversity in the last decade.

You are right.Im behind the times of and its a combination of those famous events in Bensonhurst,Howard Beach and more recently "stop and frisk" even though today the practice has stopped.
NYC black population is much smaller and getting smaller than it was.NYC is a big city so the numbers will be high of course, but percentage wise its not that high.
However NYC is still fairly segrgated.
Quote:
the issue of residential segregation has received less attention. Highly segregated pockets exist in all five boroughs: Latinos in the Bronx and Manhattan; whites in Manhattan and on Staten Island; blacks and whites in Brooklyn; and Asians, blacks and Latinos in Queens.

So my original point still stand:NYC is not the standard.
NYC is still about 25% Black and depending on where you go in the city, there are chunks where it is predominately Black. Its Black population is just very diverse and it still gets immigrants from Africa and the Caribbean.

Houston may be better than some cities, especially in the suburbs outside the Beltway, but Houston still has a lot of very segregated neighborhoods. Just like a lot of other cities, most people live in neighborhoods surrounded by people of their own race. The development pattern just means that the neighborhoods are a lot more checkerboard, but within any neighborhood usually one race dominates. At least to the Beltway, South side is heavily AA, SE is almost completely Hispanic, E is also Hispanic, NE is AA, Northside is Hispanic, NW Greenspoint is AA, Heights and Oak Forest are White, Spring Branch Hispanic, W side is White/Asian, SW is White/Asian inside the loop, and also Bellaire and Meyerland outside the loop, Hispanic between Westpark and 59, and AA in Mo City. The areas outside the Beltway are more mixed, but more mixing in newer suburbs tends to be the case in most places in the country (Except for Midwestern cities that attract fewer immigrants).
