Maybe so, but here is another one for ya. I'm visiting Las Vegas in 95 and staying at a friend's mom's house. She tells me that she used to live in the LA area and left b/c of the pollution, traffic, crime, and overpopulation. She is raving to me about the nice house she bought in a pollution free (just about) area. She told me she couldn't get a house that size in LA.
Point is, Las Vegas has tons of CA implants. The entire state of Arizona is full of CA inplants. I would venture to say that AZ has more CA implants over the last 30 years than native Arizonians! Most of these implants wanted to escape the overpopulation of SoCal.
There is no such thing in Florida b/c there is room to grow and cost of living is low.

Yeah that's true..it's not for everybody. California implants are everywhere..I remember in 6th grade our teacher was moving to Texas because it was so much cheaper and she showed us a picture of her house and we where blown away by how big it was,but she lived in a smallish apartment here..I remember everyone trying to convince they're parents to move to Texas after that LOL. (And btw this is completely true I am in no way trying to bash Texas) It's just a coincidence,I swear haha.

I'm not aware of many CA inplants in Texas, but maybe in the Austin area, probably because of the political climate!
I've also realized that Colorado and New Mexico have had many CA inplants, and this has caused some hurt feelings! LOL. I think that these two states felt that they were losing control of their "identity" when they noticed this influx. I remember studying the issue in one of my Geography of the American Southwest classes at the University of Oklahoma. Maybe a completely new thread should be started on that subject. (Not trying to bash CA natives here whatsoever!).

Well Florida has 18,400,000 and NY has 19,400,000 and Florida has a much faster growth rate, so yeah probably within the next couple years Florida should pass New York.

This isn't really a good comparison. I think CA as a whole is more alike than FL as a whole. South FL is a combo of northeastern mentality and type of people with a lot of latin culture whereas northern FL is VERY southern. Orlando and Tampa kind of fall in between. CA might have more big cities, and more land mass, but culturally most of the state is fairly similar. At least more so than FL.

That said I'd pick neither of them! However, I would love to live in northern CA if it weren't so expensive.

Getting slightly off topic in the following but...I hate the "BUT ITS MORE EXPENSIVE!" complaint...

You get what you pay for...the current housing bubble and bust have blurred those lines in economic terms... but... it all evens out in the end and starting to already. Over the long term I think you'd live a better quality of life and be exposed to more stuff in these more expensive places... if you are that type of person that wants to experience everything and constantly learn... By all means if you don't and just want to do your own thing within your own family sitting around in a bigger house then FL and a lot of the south east in general is more for you. Probably better too if religion is a big part of your life.
This goes largely to the west and east coasts, as well as big cities in general. Yeah, it will be more expensive, but it is more expensive for a reason. Again, by all means if you don't want this stuff then other states will be better suited for you and hence the COL is lower.
