I think there really isn't much debate here to be had, Bos-Wash of course. When you have NYC and DC in the same mega-region that is hard to beat in terms of power and influence, plus throw in Boston and Philly and it's even more obvious.
Ya, this should be about the second most important/powerful Megalopolis...there's absolutely no question as to who's #1...the GDP of the four largest cities would be over $2.7 trillion haha.

Curious of how that economic output would compare to other countries - or even CA - I always am amazed at where the CA economy ranks worldwide - forget the numbers but would be interesting to see the 2.7 versus other countries
Also I think it should be the SAN-SAN megapolis (SD-SF/Sac) and not just SoCal, the two regions are heavily connected. The distance between San Diego and SF and Sacramento is about the same as Chicago to Pittsburgh and Boston to Washington. About 450-500 miles/8 hour drive for each.
