Jasper's, in fact! lol So I guess I hit the right one! My favorite was a small one near Killeen though. Well, my other favorite in Texas was State line (???) just outside Austin.
Yeah, Jasper's is good, but Tony De Maria's is better. It's actually right dow the street from Jasper's.
My personal favorite is the pork with vinegar/cayenne-based sauce that they use in the Pee Dee of South Carolina, smoked on oak or hickory , served with some hash and rice. Texas brisket can be just as good, though.
Cooking meat is our most prolific art form in the south
My favorite place in the nation so far has been Arthur Bryant's in KC. I had the burnt ends one night and that won it for Bryant's for eternity. I have had nothing better, I don't think. And their brisket was good and their ribs were amazing and their pork also was phenomenal.
I like Gates also, and I liked "stack" where a co-worker took me, near KC.
Other favorites were Rendezvous in Memphis, Corky's in Memphis, Stubb's and County line in Austin, as well as wherever it was near Killeen that I had awesome bbq, and Allen & Son in NC was awesome.
I would have to say Midwest BBQ beats Southern, any day.
I an cognizant of that. But anyone who knows barbecue knows that Memphis always sort of just stands alone. That's why I put Memphis and the rest of Tenn. I will probably change the thread title though.
As far as Texas barbecue goes...Kreuz, Smitty's, Blacks, or Chilsom Trail in Lockhart or Luling City Market in Luiling. Oh and you can add in Cooper's in Llano instead. Those are the premier barbecue joints in Texas. If you haven't been to one of those...you must go quick!
I've had barbecue in Austin (County Line, Stubb's, and Salt Lick) as well as up in Killeen area and Waco area. Does that count?
In San Antonio I just had mexican food. And it was good.
Nah. Especially Killeen considering most people from there aren't from Texas. Those three places in Austin are well known but not as great as what you find in the three cities I mentioned.
I voted Carolinas. In the Carolinas we debate who has the best bar-b-que. W eknow how to bar-b-que here.
What part of Carolina has the best BBQ? Can y'all hold your own against TX, KC, Memphis, and GA? Who came up with putting slaw on the pork sandwich?
