Spin off thread in my series of brand recognition. DC beat both Chicago and San Francisco. Winner will take on the big apple.

Which city do you think has more regional, national, and international name recognition? List some things about either city that you think puts it over the top of the other in name recognition. Tourist sites, politics, companies, schools, healthcare systems, history, events, sports, anything it takes to pick one.

Yes, after seeing the poll this is a sweep for LA, as it should be. LA is known for the city, entertainment, sports (Lakers and Dodgers), controversies (NFL), diversity, celebrities, films, famous companies (Disney), theme parks (Disneyland), lets just cut it short and say the city is known for everything that happens there.

Just make sure D.C.'s biggest fan and newest resident doesn't see this thread. He'll bring the fire out of this comparison.

LA almost rivals NYC, if you can believe it. It seems that at least 60-70% of films/TV shows are set in either NYC or LA.

About 30K more films or TV shows have been set in LA than NYC.

LA's synonimous with the rise of the movie industry which is much more significant than people realize. That a city can, within a 100 or so years, have such an impact on humans all around the world is impressive. That's like saying literature was invented largely within a single city. LA has had an enormous effect on the human condition and for that it is a very important city.

In terms of LA vs. NYC, I think both are as famous around the world as each other, but if given a map (with no state or city labels) and asked to point out where each city is, I think many could point out LA better over NYC simply because the state of CA is more known and famous than the state of NY (most people really only think of NYC and forget about the rest of the state).

Wow I didn't know LA was ahead by that much!

Wait is this location, like where they shoot the film, or where a film is set? Because a ton of films set elsewhere are filmed in LA or at least Southern California. Even shows like Seinfield, Friends or Everybody Loves Raymond, except for the exterior shots.

Sorry that result was from a previous search in March. The number must be higher by now and its by locations for films, TV shows, documentaries, short films, and video games that have even 1 scene in these cities.

LA 58,402
NYC 29,294
Toronto 5,415
