Its becuase LA is a big suburb with a lame skyline. Chicago is far more of a city then LA is. you just have to visit to know why Chicago is better then LA, Chicago has a WOOW factor....LA doesn't.
Exactly, playing the weather card against Chicago is like playing the desert/water shortage (Possibility in the future) card against LA/Phoenix.
We are not talking about the future here but present. I can never understand why most Chicagoans here are so conceited. Everybody knows the harsh winters, short dreary days, everybody suffers the bone chilling cold and wind, everybody stays home more, gaines few pounds and complains about the snow and cold yet in this forum Chicagoans pretend it does not bother them at all? Who are you trying to fool here?
We are not talking about Pheonix here and with its Mediterranean climate, all cultural amenities that the city has to offer and lower crime LA simply seems to be a better place to live and raise family.
I could get used to the cold (but why?) however why would I make my son suffer as well?

I thought you're a Chicagoan too? I mean you haven't stated that you've moved out officially yet.
I don't know man, Dementor, your stories are beginning to have more and more loop holes. In an earlier post you described your reason for moving out simply so that way your son can wear shorts... got to be the most ridiculous reason I've ever heard in my life. But hey, it's cool, your life, your reasons for leaving a place.
I'm not trying to fool anyone here, come down to where I live in Houston, see how many of those kids would give anything to live in a place for snow. Me always shifting back and forth between the two cities, I can't say I have the total Chicago experience but I have experienced the winters here. I did not suffer. I was fine, yeahhh I felt cold walking around, but so what? The price to pay for living in the city I like, and I would do it again if I had too.
But then again, in your head you probably think those Houstonians I just described are "simple minded idiots who don't know anything".
As for your son, I see where you're going with this. And I wouldn't blame you for moving out of Chicago. You want what's best for your child, it's understandable, and Florida is a nice place. Hope you have the best of luck relocating there, and that your son can finally wear shorts outdoors, instead of reading magazines and watching TV shows where other kids his age are wearing shorts outdoors.
You listed places that are not part of Los Angeles.
Those places I listed are all in the LA basin and are definitely part of Los Angeles. Easily within the LA city limits.

People talk about the gloom and how bad it is but honestly, gray skies have never been a problem for me, and it only lasts a little while before the skies clear up. Most of the time I don't even notice. Let's not forget this thing called "June Gloom" in Los Angeles.
Even with the June Gloom, Los Angeles has over 280 sunny days per year.

So? You have to dress properly for the heat.
I was pointing out the fact that even if one doesn't drive, the weather does affect him or her.

Yes, 10 million ppl in Chicagoland suffer every year becuase its so cold. I'm sure if that would be the reason, big cities in the north like Chicago,New York, and Phily would of never existed.Where not talkin about whether, we're talkin about what (CITY) is better. whether is just a small factor, but people get used to winter,it only last 4 months, plus snow! LA has never seen snow. Why keep your son from seeing what a White Christmas is really like?
idk when exactly it was but Chicago's already had about four or five 80F temps so far and a hand full of 70Fs, Check the national whether map,Chicago is usally hotter in the summer then LA,Chicago has no mountains to keep the hot southern air from moving in.
1. Parts of Los Angeles are, by definition, desert
Not true. Nowhere in the Los Angeles city limits is there a desert climate. The actual desert is over the San Fernando pass, though the mountains and into the Antelope valley. Or through Cajon pass, again though the mountains and into the Mojave desert. Or east of San Gorgonio pass and into the Coachella valley.

2. Going inland anywhere will cause the temperature to rise.
LA is cool to visit though, but i can't imagine living there. I like big cities!
LA isn't a big city? Isn't it the 2nd most populous city in the U.S?
