I was looking for a list of large *metro areas* that have tons of transplants, but oddly, there was none to be found.
I mean this doesn't really help much now does it?

I imagine NYC is up there.
Most big cities...but still want to find some stats.
I know some big MSAs are really the only show in town...the only big city in the state.
It's my theory that sometimes this leads to everyone from the outer lying towns flocking to and staying a these big cities. They think they've 'made it' and thats the end of their travels. Also leads to more cliquish behavior if everyone knows each other from 'Bug Tussle High' and you arrive from out of state. Just a theory though.
In fact a lot of states seem to only have one big city.
Coming from Texas this took me a while to appreciate.
Anyways...anyone got a link or list readily available?
The SJ-SF-Oakland metro (aka the Bay Area) has a population that's 27.3% foreign born according to wikipedia. Not sure about all non-native residents though.
Not sure how you are defining "large", but if Orlando, FL is large, I'd guess they'd be close to the top of the list. So would Las Vegas. I would guess any Sunbelt metro that has grown quickly in the last 30 years or so would be a likely candidate.
I'd be surprised if any NE'n or Midwestern metro would qualify. Ditto for any other Metro that's had an average or lower growth rate over the last 30 years.
If you're looking for people born out of state, I believe Phoenix would be at or near the top of the list. Las Vegas and Charlotte would probably be at or near the top of the list, as well.

Western big Cities as stated before, Phoenix and Las Vegas easily, slightly smaller cities throughout the West as well have a large number of out of state immigrants. If for no other reason at all, California is in the West after all and people can't seem to leave that state fast enough, so they end up in other states all over the West.

The diaspora of immigrant groups is a natural occurence and not really because people cant seem to leave that state fast enough.
Just as Millions made their way into the US through Ellis Island in the beginning of the 20th century and then went elsewhere, so does California serve as a springboard today.

If were talking out-of-state, Hampton Roads, VA has to be in there. Out of country metro Washington, DC.
