You can live virtually anywhere in Philly and have the same. Atlanta is well known for horrible traffic. Atlanta is not that big, so what does that tell you? It tells me alot about the car culture of Atlanta.
And no one is denying that. The city experienced rapid growth during the age of sprawl; the same goes for the outer edges of the older Northeastern cities as well. This is a well-established fact so I don't know why it gets repeated over and over. As I stated, depending on where you live in Atlanta, your car doesn't have to be attached to your hip. But it's still nice to have the option to use your car to get to your destination quicker in some instances.

Okay Atlanta bashers you now have a new whipping child. You can now begin trashing Denver as being a sprawling, un dense mess. After all it's Metro Area is larger with fewer people than Atlanta's 5 main counties. Anytime now.... I'm waiting...
No, Denver will not be bashed on this site. The reason for that is because Denver supporters do not make obscene comments to boost their city higher than a level of what it should be on. The city of Philly has 1,447,395 million people in 135 sq miles. The city of Atlanta has 537,958 people in 132.43 sq miles. So, the city of Philly is only three square miles bigger than Atlanta, but has 909,437 more people. Philly has a MSA population of 5,826,742 within 5,118 sq miles. Atlanta has a MSA population of 5,376,285 sq miles within 8,376 sq miles. So, Philly has a MSA population of 450,457 higher than Atlanta, which constitutes an area that is 3,258 less square miles. How can anyone not see that Atlanta is a sprawl?
The Denver Metro had a population of 2,506,626 in 2008 and the Denver-Aurora-Boulder Combined metro is 2,998,878.
What's with all the ATL threads in here anyway? I doubt they're being generated by folks from the ATL. I voted for ATL over Philly to balance things out a little bit.
It's a common thing here. It is not people from Atlanta who are "ridiculously boosting" their city and trying to rub it in everybody's face. By and large, people from outside of Georgia start these threads - far too many of them - and then get indignant when people *dare* make comparisons between Atlanta and places like Philadelphia. When in fact, I would bet a substantial amount of money that any valid, scientifical poll of general American opinion would show that more people would prefer ATL over Philly.
I'm not from Atlanta and I've never lived there, but I can empathize with them because the elitist Northeastern snobs here - most of whom have never even lived outside of that region - tend to do the exact same thing with cities in Florida. And it gets very old, very quickly...

What city in America doesn't have sprawl? All cities in the U.S.A dropped in the amount of traffic, except D.C which overtook Atlanta for the number two spot (Source: The Post and Courier - Charleston SC (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_TRAFFIC_CONGESTION?SITE=SCCHA&SECTION=HOME&TEMP LATE=DEFAULT - broken link)). So yes, Atlanta does have sprawl and so does every other region in the U.S including cities in the Northeast.
In addition, Atlanta is making great strides to improve traffic in the city and the city is also creating ways to add more density to the urban core of Atlanta Source: http://www.11alive.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=132313&catid=3 (broken link)).

Yes I get it. Atlanta and Atlanta Metro are not as dense as Philly and Philly Metro. But neither are Denver, Indianapolis, Boston, Portland, Kansas City, Austin, etc, etc, So why are those cities not attacked for being sprawled the way Atlanta is? That's my point.

Atlanta (Buckhead)
People from those cities arent as boastful and know their place.

"Know their place"? The awful historic connotation of this phrase aside, a non-Atlantan actually started this thread. And it really has nothing to do with what you said; it's the fact that Atlanta is more on par economically with cities like Philly, Boston, etc. and just may zoom past them.

You knew when you said that, it would get a response. So hear it is.Since you said it; back it up.What is Atlanta's place? You obviously have some knowledge that perhaps you would like to impart us with.Surely you are not irresponsible enough to make statements like that without giving insight as to why one should believe what you say is truthful or even knowledgeable?
