The OP wanted a ranking on different criteria then you set forth.

Also, what is your definition of "extensive research?" Even by your criteria, your list is curious by your reasoning.

My list of cities downtown are cities I've actually have been to. I have ranked the cities based on activities during the day time, nightlife , vibe and the attitude of the people.

1. New Orleans( always something going on 24/7 plus people are great)

2. NYC( like New Orleans but people are much rude)

3. Miami( a sexy city...very exotic... a hot night life)

4. Los Angeles( surprisingly fun during the day)

5. Atlanta( very balance downtown atmosphere)

6. Las Vegas( everything is on the strip...thats all you need)

7. Dallas( The historical places are great and night life)

8. Minneapolis(Nicolette mall.. nice performing arts theaters and nightlife

9. Chicago( like a mini NYC and the people are MUCH more rude)

10. Jacksonville( small... very religious.....Jackson Landing..thats it)

I did not get into the logistics of the cities because I prefer to live in the countryside or rural areas.

Outside of the Riverwalk, San Antonio has little on Houston or Dallas. And in fact, both of those score even higher in walkability than Austin.

According to the list San Antonio has the most walkable dowtown in Texas. Outside the Riverwalk? San Antonio's downtown(outside Riverwalk) is full of landmarks, plazas, parks and cultural centers, moreso than any Texas city. They list San Antonio a little lower due to adding those other neighborhoods with the downtown score.

Wow, they updated and downtown Austin has a score of 100 now, it was 89 last time I checked. Below San Antonio. Things that make you go, Hmm!

I don't think anyone whose actually set foot in these 2 would place Downtown DC above Downtown SF as far as overall things to do, entertainment, definitely not dining or shopping-and you mentioned skyline as one of your criteria. DC doesnt really have one.

I mean, we could talk about office space, but that's only one aspect of a downtown. As far as GDP, that is totally irrelevent to downtown vibrancy.

12) Denver

13) Minneapolis

Are you sure you did extensive research? I can tell you that Minneapolis ranks in front of Denver.

GDP (in billions)
Minneapolis - $193.9
Denver - $150.8

Downtown Shopping
Downtown Minneapolis has Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Sak's, Target, etc...
Downtown Denver doesn't haven those listed above, but has a Victoria's Secret and a Niketown.

Skyline Rankings
Minneapolis usually wins this debate, sometimes rather easily.

Chicago is ranked waaaaaaaay too high.

Chicago is a rustbelt downtown that is going down the toilet. Very dangerous and unsavory.

Mayor Daley received a black eye last week from walking through the Loop.
