Well I must say that I love NY humor; however, I have to give the nod to Atlanta. The people in Atlanta are hilarious and they do not care what others think. You will run into an unpaid performance on the downtown streets.
I wouldn't argue against New York (I voted for it). Not only do some of the country's funniest people come from NYC, but they use a dry, and ironic sense of humor to get over problems and move on. I was amazed at how the city used humor to recover from 9/11 and other American tragedies. I love New York for that humor.
Boston deserves mention. It's no NYC in that regard, but it has a similar dry, ironic humor where nothing is really off limits. Many funny people come from Boston (unfortunately, so does Dane Cook) too.
In the end though, I have to give the nod to NYC.
*edit*
I have to ask, is the Question Mark after San Diego in the poll a subtle nod to Ron Burgundy's teleprompter blunder in Anchorman ("I'm Ron Burgundy?")?

Nah, just a typo Anyways, thanks for the comments. You got it 100% right: in New York humor is a way to survive.
I say the south. Southerners are natural and pleasant. We make fun of ourselves all the time, and don't take ourselves extrememly serious like northeners.
HAH! Northerners make fun of themselves AND Southerners all the time!
Which city folks have the best sense of humor? Not interested in "who was born where" but which city currently is the most laid back and with the most humor brilliant sense of humor which ios reflected in its culture? Cities and their metro areas. Please give examples and leave comments...
Go ahead!
I would have to say New York and Chicago for this one. New York is home to a number of top-shelf comedians, while Chicago is the breeding ground for the nation's best improv comics at Zanies and Second City. Good thread idea.

Southerners don't make jokes about northerners because we don't think about them. Evidently northerners don't have much of a life if they're sitting around thinking about us
Considering I legitimately think Rachael84's profile here is an absurdist post-modern exercise in experimental humor and not the least bit serious, I'll give a nod to New York for this category. I think her profile and TANaples profile were both created by one person merely to stretch the boundaries of classical humor in order to point out the futile ridiculousness of tautological existence. I am genuinely in awe of both profiles, and I realize I'm lucky to be in the presence of such comic genius that relegates Andy Kaufman's schtick to the equivalent of knock-knock jokes.
In other words, I don't know if New Yorkers have the best sense of humor, but they certainly have the most cutting-edge sense of humor... if in fact those profiles were in reality created and maintained in New York City. Chances are they're probably actually manned by some guy in a basement in Missouri.
Wow that's rough. I looked at her profile, and I didn't see anything too absurd about it. To what do you refer?
