I'm surprised to see New Orleans and Nashville on there. I have many friends in both cities and they love it there. I can't speak for the rest of the cities as I don't know enough about them to say whether they are "happy" or "unhappy." Looking at how they "calculated unhappiness", I'd say that the list is subjective at best.

New Orleans has good spots, but a lot of the city is just a giant ghetto... it's not really unsurprising.

That's true. I'm just use to hearing/experiencing the good things/parts and can see how it could be considered unhappy to many, especially since Hurricane Katrina occurred.
This list is pretty sad. As is Forbes'. Yea, they back it up with numbers, but that doesn't mean the methodology is worth a damn thing.
It's supposed to be sad, it's the most unhappiest cities list.
But seriously, like someone said before, you can't put this thing into any kind of numbers, so any charts that are created for it.. are pretty much irrelevant, imo.
Replace Cincinnati with Louisville, KY. Now that's a bunch of unfriendly, miserable people. Heck, it wears off on me just when I visit Louisville.
New Orleans being on this list doesn't surprise me at all. Nashville, however, does surprise me; people seem pretty open and friendly there in my travels.
I'd be happy to relieve any unhappy Portlander of their misery by giving them my spot in this mecca of merriment.
My guess is that the depressed types are probably not flocking to Detroit, and depressed types in Detroit are more likely to leave than depressed Portland residents.
Just another list that tries to quantify something that really isn't that quantifiable.
The only city that I see in your website is Detroit, so what northern cities are you talking about? I do not see NYC there. Can we stay on topic please? Now, are you trying to compete or something?
