Yes, and I would agree with you. Although (just as it probably is in Milwaukee), most crime in St. Louis is condensed to very specific areas.

You can boat on the Mississippi but you can't swim in it and the water is so dirty, at least the part close to St. Louis is. In the debate of water, hands down: Lake Michigan > Mississippi River

Very True, 5 yrs ago it probably would have been the same but we got a new police chief from Mass. and crime has dropped dramatically along with gentrification probably as well too. Old bad neighborhood turned into yuppies areas.

You can swim in the rivers north of St. Louis. The Illinois, Mississippi and even the mighty MO. Still doesn't compare to Lake MI.

While I like the modern design of the Milwaukee art museum, St. Louis has a much better collection and a pretty cool beaux arts bldg.

Plus let's not forget the 1982 World Series!!!
The big difference between the two are their locations in the Midwest. Milwaukee is a Great Lakes city, and St. Louis is a river city. St. Louis is more like Kansas City, Indianapolis, Columbus, and Cincinnati while Milwaukee is more like Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland and the Twin Cities. It's the Lower Midwest compared to the Upper Midwest. The Upper Midwest has some Canadian influences while the lower Midwest has some Southern influences. Both these cities, however, have far more similarities than differences.

More urban? St. Louis is FAR more urban than Milwaukee. Even though it is spread out more the St. Louis metro area is more urban in most places than Milwaukee. In terms of Midwestern cities, I would put St. Louis as my third pick to live behind Chicago and Minneapolis.

More urban and higher density of buildings and people, more of a mini Chicago, very mini.

Milwaukee is a fun city with a unique personality of its own. Saint Louis is a very historically-significant city with one of the all-time great baseball teams. Tough choice. I'm going with Milwaukee.

PS: FYI: the Packers are not in Milwaukee, otherwise it would be no contest.
