I use the term nightlife to refer to bars, clubs, restaurants and other fun actives which would attract someone in his early 20s.

Well, it's all kind of subjective.
Here's what I think.

In North America (In no order):

NYC
LA
Toronto
Chicago
Montreal
Vancouver
Miami
Mexico City
San Francisco
Las Vegas

On Par (In no order):

Boston
Atlanta
Philadelphia
Calgary
Houston
Seattle
Edmonton

Thanks! I'm a little surprised to see Toronto on the list. It has nightlife but does it really exceed that found in Washington? I guess to make this scientific would be to compare the number of bars in each city, but I'm not sure how we can do that.

Well, Toronto would have more bars. It's about 5 or 6 times larger than DC. Plus, my sister has been to both cities and says that she enjoyed nightlife in Toronto better. But like I said earlier, it's all subjective. Maybe you should visit Toronto and check out the nightlife.

I lived there for many years. I was not impressed with the nightlife to tell the truth. I guess you're right about it being highly subjective.

I'd say that Las Vegas, Miami, and NYC are the nightlife capitals of the country.

Some cities have better bars (Chicago & Boston)
Some cities have better restaurants ( NY, SF, Chicago, Vegas)
But DC certainly has better upscale clubs except for NY, Miami and Vegas.

Vegas, Miami, NYC, Chicago, Boston, Philly and LA.

Those cities are better, can compete or are on the same level with DC
