The Chicago Rarities Orchard Project (CROP) is a non-profit working to establish community rare-fruit orchards in Chicago, and has planted small orchards of PawPaw trees around Chicago. I believe there are sixty trees planted now, although they aren't expected to start bearing fruit for another 3 years. Too bad
They're sold here in farmers markets downtown and around the city/metro though.
Alas, it is the tree which is grown in NJ, as in NY, and the fruit is not sold anyplace I'm aware of. Sorry to have given false hope.
Yea, I've been eyeing a few trees at Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, but they never seem to fruit. I'm passively looking for pawpaws now because that was a good chunk of time wasted the year I made this thread.
I never heard of them until now, but after doing some quick research I'll keep my eyes pealed for them. (because they look good)
Do they taste similar to mangos by any chance?
Paw paw trees are native here and grow in some spots, but I don't think I've seen the fruit available for sale here, maybe some of the country markets.
