"Duke is puke
Wake is fake
The team I hate is NC State
You can't go to heaven in a red canoe
Cause Gods favorite color is CAROLINA BLUE!"
Ahh, but don't you know that we all bleed RED! GO PACK!!!
And FWIW, the greater Triangle area is home to between 90-100k college students at more than just the big three schools. Other schools in the area:
Meredith College - Raleigh
Peace College - Raleigh
St. Mary's College - Raleigh
Shaw University - Raleigh
St. Augustines College - Raleigh
North Carolina Central University - Durham
Southern Theological Seminary - Wake Forest (the town, not the Univ.)
Campbell University - Buies Creek/Raleigh (Law School)
Raleigh is the educational powerhouse of the two. Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill are two of the best schools in this country. University of Texas is a very good school as well, but not quite as prestigious as the other two. Raleigh also has NC State which is a good school as well.
I'll give a little credit to Austin though, since Austin is a better college town though as far as collegiate culture and atmosphere go. UT has a strong cultural influence over the city (especially with sports and nightlife), which makes it vibrant and youthful, kind of like Columbus, Madison, and Ann Arbor.

I wanted to focus on the largest and most well known.

Oh my were going to drag this into a thread. This is typical NC talk ha ha which university is better! (Which of course is UNC) And gambling on the sports!
Just because of its sheer size, I think UT is proabably on a par with either Duke or UNC. But combined, the Raleigh area is too much to overcome.
