It seems that there is a lot of discussion here about regional preferences, but I couldn't find this poll. Not "North vs. South", but more specifically, Rust Belt (i.e. Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania) versus Sun Belt (i.e., California, Arizona, Nevada, Florida.) Some "northern" states aren't in the Rust Belt (i.e., Vermont) just as some Southern states (i.e., Kentucky or West Virginia) aren't in the Sun Belt.

Which of those two broad regions do you prefer, and why?

Having lived in both...my vote is with the Sun Belt. Rust Belt cities and states had absolutely no appeal to me at all, and I was never happy living in that region.

Cool poll idea, but the rust belt is going to get butchered, even though I voted for it.

People go crazy when they have to get the snowblower out but yet they don't mind 105 degrees with 99.999999999999999999% humidity?

I don't get it.

That's because there is probably never a day where it's 105 degrees with 99.9% humidity. It's basically taking the bad with the good when it comes to weather. In the North, many people do not like being cold whatsoever. When the summer comes in teh North, they can be just as humid as it's Southern peers. Meanwhile in the South, the summers can be brutal. But the winters are very very pleasent.

There are only a few Northern cities I would live in and those are Minneapolis, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, and Washington DC if you want to count that. Weather is not a big deal to me.

South Florida winters are 76 degree days, 60 degree nights, not a cloud in the sky and sunny.

I'll take that over some dreary, snowed-in, 20-degree Michigan winter day without any hesitation!

I choose the rust belt for a few reasons.

- I prefer the weather.
- I prefer the architecture.
- I like the grit and history. (I know many sunbelt cities have history, but all of the new growth makes the old stuff harder to see.)

I've never been a follower of trends. And, the trend around here seems to be to move to the sunbelt. I don't consider this a legitimate reason, but it affects my decision anyway.

I'd take the Sunbelt easily: Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Syracuse, Milwaukee, Detroit, Toledo, Cleveland, etc against ATL, Miami, LA, New Orleans, Houston, San Diego...Keep going?OK, vs Dallas, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Tampa, Orlando,OKC, and San Antonio. I can live in Pittsburgh and Milwaukee easily, but forget the rest of the rustbelt towns. The Sunbelt has more to offer.
