In terms of culture, general attitudes, vibe, feel, history, academics, people, demographics, sports...

Is Chicago more like, a smaller New York... or a bigger Boston?

I am leaning towards a bigger Boston ... and was thinking the towns are a better comparison.

I am kind of seeing more SF being like a mini Manhattan in terms of culture, feel, vibe, people.

To me Boston and Chicago are seeming more similar, possibly more "american" with SF and NYC being more "international"

Though I am sure there are arguments the other way. I thought this might make for an interesting topic.

Discuss.

No, CHI is not like BOS. BOS is very olde world Euro. Minimal skyscrapers. Demure. Modest. CHI never was like BOS but always aims to be like NYC.

Chicago is not like NYC or Boston.

Chicago is somewhat newer looking and is (of course) Midwestern. NYC and Boston are older East Coast cities.

Boston arguably looks somewhat like a smaller NYC.

Chicago looks completely different. It doesn't have a similar housing stock or feel at all.

And no it is not New York. New York has a long tradition of being a cultural and intellectual mecca that Chicago has never been or aspired to be. I can't vote in this poll since there is no option for "neither".

Neither.

Chicago is Chicago. Nothing like New York, nothing like Boston.

Dementor's right on it being neither, but forget the other stuff written.

I voted more like NYC, I suppose because between the two options is was more honest.

But Chicago is Chicago. It has a completely separate feeling, look and design going on.

I would say chicago is chicago, give chicago its respect. Im a new yorker but i know just like you cant put new york in a box, neither can u put chicago. Stop treating chicago like its a bigger version of atlanta or something. It is an elite american city. Treat it as such. Real talk

I vote along with Finalcut neither

I would say a much bigger Milwaukee, Chicago does not have the feel of NYC or Boston. It is midwestern all the way.

The only similarities between NYC and Chicago are that they are big cities with impressive skylines. Everything else feels different to me.

NY is NY, and Chicago is Chicago.

Boston is unique too, but it's MUCH closer in look and feel to NY than Chicago.
