It was, but you won't see me at Vanguard in Greensboro. You will see me on the website every Thursday (or soon Friday), writing about transportation developments. I've been writing for the mag since the woman who got me started as a freelancer at PhillyMag moved over there and invited me to take over "New Starts" when the guy who began it moved on.

And congratulations! I'll keep an eye out for the formal announcement on Next City.

One of the greenest and loveliest cities in the country, and if you don't believe me, well, pay it a visit sometime. Great barbecue and an increasingly eclectic restaurant scene to go with it. Very friendly people who know how to make noise when the (Super Bowl Champion after 50 years!) Chiefs play.

Omaha, Neb.

Arts, culture. Smaller Kansas City. Omaha is a neat industrial town. Love the down home vibe and Americana/Blues/Jazz scene.

Birmingham, AL.

RE: Birmingham - Hot, humid, kinda small but decent urban bones, very southern, kinda old and run down but I would live there given the right opportunity. Maybe.

Never been. People seem to love it or hate it based on their political lean (at least that's the impression I get from the interwebs). My guess it it's just like any other city with it's own local flavor.

Olympia, WA

Motorcycle gangs in the 70's-90's (not sure about now). Spring Break town. You can drive you car on the beach. Near Orlando.

Expensive, well-established suburb. The absolute place to be for post-war young families where Dad commuted into the city and Mom gossiped with the other housewives while Bobby and Sally were at school. Oh yeah, the cocker spaniel is in the backyard.

Place to escape the craziness of Miami while still being in Southern Florida. Still plenty to do, nice beaches good restaurants, etc just without the crazy.
