I am sick of reading these terrible Forbes/Money Magazine best places to live lists because they never know what they are talking about. So if you live in a great city please nominate it and tell why it is a great city to live in.
The thing with those rankings is that they usually consider cost of living a major factor. While it is indeed a very practical factor, those rankings usually make the wrong impression that some town in the middle of nowhere is better than New York City.

Maybe a town in the middle of nowhere is better than New York City. Or maybe it isn't, but you seem to be almost stating it like "that just can't be possible" and I don't see why it can't.
Its not that Forbes/Money magazine don't know what they're talking about but when you ask the "Best" of anything especially when it comes to places to live, its very subjective. Forbes/Money like to use actual statistics to come up with the best places to live yet most human are not hardwired for being so black and white when it comes to places to live. Where someone in the country might love his town in th middle of nowhere, someone else might think its the worse place in the world with nothing to do and vice versa. So yeah very subjective question...depends who you ask
I wonder if it'd be possible to poll different cities to compare "life satisfaction", like they do with nations. I don't know if that'd give you a sense of good cities or not, but it'd be interesting to see what cities have the people most happy to be in them. (That seems potentially confusing in grammar, but maybe it can be followed)
There are so many great cities in the US but I think that Boston IMA is the best because of its rich history to this nation and there are a lot of things to do there, overall its a great place to visit.
NYC is the best city in the US. This is so because we have 24 hours transportation like no other city, we have many museums, restaruants, is very diversed etc..

Houston,TX:
- Offers the best of both words as far as being able to live in a vibrant urban community, while also having access to a nice, relaxing suburban atmosphere.
- Great quality of life, while not having to pay an arm and a leg
- As far as weather, summers can be brutal, but it's worth it once Fall and Winter roll around.
- Relaxing laid-back feel, yet in a sort of fast-paced city, but not too fast.
- Very Diverse and incredibly integrated (imo).
- World Class amenities as far as shopping, attractions, nightlife, etc
- Close to the beach (not the best beach, but good enough) as well as the historic Galveston.
- Located in Texas

If cost wasn't a issue, I'd still take Houston over LA,NYC,MIA,SF,etc
