Houston needs to improve on academics. Period. UH has the potential to become a great university since they are in a major city. But what other university can improve? HBU? Rice is a great school but that is it. Houston needs to improve on this.

I certainly wouldn't put Sydney and Chicago in the same class as far as financial importance goes.

GDP:

Sydney: $172B
Chicago: $460B

Compared to American cities, Sydney is in between Seattle and Phoenix (in GDP).

On top of that, one of my most important financial exchanges in the world is located in Chicago, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. On the list I showed in one of my prior posts, Chicago is ranked as the #7 financial center on the planet. Sydney is ranked #16, which is pretty impressive, but I wouldn't say they're close to one another.

Sydney is a powerhouse in its own right, but not on the same status as Chicago. Chicago, in finance, rivals that of Hong Kong and Singapore.

I'd agree. I have always had a problem with where DC should be ranked. It has reasons to be ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th. It is hard to decipher DC's importance and figure out where it should be ranked

HBU is a very good school. It's just very small. Although that is changing. The school has been growing rapidly ever since they hired the old president from Baylor.

Yeah, DC almost can't be ranked because it power and influence is so unique. The city itself can't compare to Chi or LA. But as the nation's capital it is where the most important decisions are made.

IMO, only DC and NYC can make a credible case for most powerful/important city.
