Clear Channel is based in San Antonio and AT&T was the company that moved to Dallas. To everyoe who reads. It says feel free make corrections and some got offended at what they saw. Your area that you live in may not be what you thought it6 was or what the leaders or local media have told you..lol..like people here in Atlanta..the metro area is larger than the whole state of Mass. in land..too large..it should be noted basedon density instead of area because many areas cover more land than others.
I don't have the energy to go through 4 states to find 140something companies revenues and add them up.
LOL
Obviously its going to be in the trillions of dollars.
Seems like a bit of NE bias, No NYC no Philly, think they would both be in top 5, odd the ones you choose but ok
Plus think Philly MSA may actually be overly high due to Wilmington DE, the tax benefits, thus find many of stats by themselves suspect, but are objective criteria...

San Antonio had 6 now it's down to 5. It's more than 4 for sure.
At&T moved in 2009
1. Valero Energy
2. Clear Channel
3. USAA( I work here with 20,000 others in one building) This building has it's own zip code and more than 6 million sq feet.
4. Tesoro Energy
5. Nustar Energy

There will be a few deductions from Dallas/DFW totals due to buyouts.
Centex got bought out by another home company last year.
BNSF Railroad got bought out by Berkshire
Affliated Computer Services also got bought out by someone else
and the last two on the list (Crosstex Energy and Blockbuster) likely will be dropped from the F500 due to falling revenues...Crosstex due to lower energy prices over the past year (it was borderline F500 as such) and Blockbuster because, well, they sat on their asses while Netflix ate their lunch and now having to shut many stores and shrink.
Philadelphia will lose Rohm & Haas since it got bought out by Dow Chemicals.
If you measure a metro area based on companies' revenue... the giant metro area of Bentonville, Arkansas would pop up in the middle of the country, thanks to Walmart's giant $400+ billion in annual revenues.
Of course, with Walmart's near-1% profit margin, the profit rankings would have that metro region back in some anonymous rung where it usually belongs...
Point is that a region that has many low-profit, high volume companies will rate highly in a ranking of metros based on F500 company revenues.
Sorry, but I didn't see CC Media Holdings (parent company of Clear Channel Communications, Inc. and Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCO)) at no. 372.
The 2009 Fortune 500 list was released this past April. I'm always interested in seeing how metro areas stack up. Here are the totals for a few metropolitan areas. Feel free to add your metro area or make corrections as I may have made a few mistakes.

Houston has 29. The Woodlands (with Anadarko Petroleum) and Sugarland (with CVR Energy) are both apart of the Houston metro. Also, if you include Fort Worth and all the suburbs with Dallas, it's more around 23, give or take a few (assuming I counted right).
