Sorry but in terms of number Toronto is just way out in front in this and most matchups! Oddly enough - both cities have condo's named Murano... lol of which I prefer Philly's Murano
Even if nothing new was built I still think Toronto has a bigger and more impressive skyline than Philadelphia. Though I do like the look of those Liberty Place towers.
Philadelphia has 90 High rises/Skyscrapers/mid-low rises going up RIGHT NOW.
I see what you did there, with the low-rises. Unfortunately those are a far cry from being a highrise and or skyscraper.
If by 90 you mean 12, then yeah, with 24 proposed according to Dylan's last update. Whereas Toronto has 151 under construction at the moment and 248 proposed.
Either way, whether emporis' numbers or Dylan's update on his skyscraper site are right or not, that's not remotely in the same ballpark between the two cities. For example, between those under construction and those proposed, Toronto has 400 buildings (well 2 shy of 400) and that's realistically more than all of what Philadelphia has now.
As for skylines, being as I am a 21st century modernist with a stark interest in skyscrapers as I've always had one all my life, there's realistically no other city in North America that I agree with more architecturally than Toronto at street level. Aesthetics from pictures or a candid shot from afar, then yeah I prefer New York and Chicago more, for now.

Toronto is obviously building more. Emporis has a better database of everything already built in the city, but Skyscraperpage has a better database of what is currently being built/planned in each city. The 12 under construction and 24 planned for Philadelphia seems right, but three more were just announced for Philadelphia, so that number is now at 27.
^^
Yeah, just waiting on all the lakefront developments to finish, fast forwarding 5 years- 7 years from now would be awesome. Toronto's skyline will be a massive chain of skyscrapers along Lake Ontario.
If you're into highrise living or just a skyscraper fanatic (both of which apply to me) then there aren't too many cities in North America worth it other than New York, Chicago, Toronto, Vancouver, or Miami, in my opinion. Chicago is the taller of the two, for the time being however.

Reason: Sorry for editing your post, but I'm trying to get this thread back on topic (ie., just Philly and Toronto).
I REALLY like Philadelphia, it's possibly my favorite city in the northeast united states. It's super gritty and I've always really loved the walk north up Broad Street and then down the Benjamin Franklin Pkwy. I had a buddy that lived off South St and spent quite a bit of time there. That said, I feel Philly is a little outmatched against Toronto. I don't think it's a "blowout", but Philly is definitely fighting in too high of a weight class. Sorry for the lame analogy.
Obviously Toronto is much larger than Philadelphia, but I still argue that for the most part, Philadelphia has better architecture. I chose Toronto still though for it's sheer size.
Here is a recent shot of the core of the Philly skyline. Not the whole skyline but a great picture:
Toronto has some colossal boxes to contend with but those will be balanced in the next few years by some more modern and varied architectural representations. I do think we could use some more spires for sure! Regardless - I would take Scotia over anything in Philly including Comcast - but that is just my opinion.
