I wouldn't say by far. I feel like in the next few years, this rivary will definitely heat up between these two cities. If signature tower ever gets built, it's on.
I say it is a toss up. I like Nashville just as much as I like Charlotte. Both cities have "their own thing" going on in their respective states. I will say that Charlotte (and the metro area) is actually larger than Nashville. I was shocked when I saw the numbers.
Charlotte's CSA has 2.4 million people in 6,500 sq./mi of land (as of 2009)
Nashville's CSA has 1.6 million people in 6,300 sq./mi of land (as of 2009)
I NEVER would have thought of metro Charlotte being 50% larger than metro Nashville (before I checked the numbers). It is kinda funny, because I know of SEVERAL posters (from cities with metros 50% larger than metro Charlotte OR LESS) that would have a RIOT if Charlotte were ever compared to their city. Yet, Nashville and Charlotte are often lumped together and it is "OK".
Charlotte is often lumped in with Austin as well (another city metro Charlotte is nearly 50% larger than). Oh well. C'est La Vie
