I love Southern accents. And the Western "accent" is actually considered the standard accent. That's why where I live there are call centers... and not in places like New York or Mississippi.

Some people with Southern accents you sit there and you're like "wtf did they just say?" and part of it is because of the drawl. So I'm more about Western accents because it is a guarantee you'll understand what they say, unless they are like murmuring or something.

There are PLENTY of call centers in Virginia as well. I have talked to quite a number of call center reps that were in Texas as well.

It is harder to find accents in the US now because of so many people moving to cities these days. One as to look in a town or small city. Also with mass media and stigma of accents the schools are training kids and teens out of it.

This is what youth sound like mow in the south. The accents are so diluted it is hard to notice it.

They don't sound like the people in Hollwood that seems to think people talk like in the TV show walking Dead.

People in Hollywood thinks people in the south talk like this.

People in Hollywood think people in the south have very strong accent and they don't.At least not today.

Yes I agree the southern accent sounds horrific especially the Deep Southern accent! However the upper southern accent in the Midland South region sounds somewhat better because they have more of a twang instead of a drawl. But out here on the West Coast we don't really have accents so basically we talk plain regular English
I don't think you know the difference what is twang vs a drawl.

Here is southern twang .

The southern twang comes across more redneck.

ok what is a western accent ?
Most people on the west coast are transplants so their will be a mix of every thing. But California is known for the flat ,low pitch and fast talking. When I watch documentary or cop programs , they don't even raise their voice in a emergency or when they are mad.

The voice moderation does not go up with excitement , surprise or when some one is mad.

Kellie Pickler has what I would consider a thick, but not ugly, Southern accent:

She talks very fast and her accents is so diluted that she does not really sound southern person.

I'm from New Mexico and I've been told by someone from California, Michigan and New York that I have an accent.

One of my friends Is from rural Maryland and he speaks with one of the thickest accents I've heard.

She has a typical Upper South accent. Cute sweet, very little drawl, but slower than northern and western accents.

I think the Western US accent sounds slightly southern, especially older people. Words like "sad" sound kinda drawled out West.

Californians do have accents. They pronounce a lot of words funny, like "picture" and "pitcher" sound the same there.
