North Carolina has the first three but is lacking the desert. If only North Carolina had beautiful locales like Uvalde, Lubbock, Abiline, Odessa, Amarillo, and of course Muleshoe.

Neither are in the desert of Texas. Than again, Texas doesn't have a desert. It has a steppe with the 2nd largest canyon in North America.

Good night now.
Meaning, it is diverse but not integrated meaning you don't find them mingling with each other. Same thing people say about Chicago. For example, Houston is diverse and is one of the most integrated cities in the nation because many of them live amongst each other. There isn't many neighborhoods where one culture or nationality is dominate. Same cannot be said for Dallas.

LOL! Wow! I wonder which one you picked?! I too have to go with N. Carolina in the end though. Beautiful!! I am however more of a nature lover over big city lover. I do love and enojoy Austin and think that it is one of the most unique cities in the country. Not to mention that Houston and Dallas are ever changing and interesting cities in their own right. Even with that, N. Carolina it is for me. I could for certain see us retiring there someday.

Yep me too, I love the nature in NC! All places are not for all people and Houston is not for me. We are hoping to move to either NC or Tenn someday.

I think the friendly atmosphere of Appalachia in NC makes me yearn for it more and more each day. I have a good friend who lived in Texas, he is originally from WI and moved there for 4 years. He said there was alot of recreation but the culture shock was inevitable.

This is a tough question for me to personally answer but I will give it my best. I have lived in both places. I lived in Charlotte, NC for 7 years and currently live in Dallas, TX. Charlotte is a very manicured beautiful city with lots of families and not much diversity. When I lived there it was not very artsy nor open minded but my last visit Charlotte seemed to be catching up with the times. A nice drive on the linville aquaduct, a hike up grandfather mountain or a few days at the beach can make NC much more tolerable. NC is a beautiful state.....just beautiful but it lacks personality and culture. The food definitly is making a comeback in NC due to all the northerners migrating in from NJ and NY. NC is a great state but not for everyone.
As for Texas....I lived in Austin for 5 years and loved every minute of it. Austin is one of the best cities in the country in my opinion. It is beautiful, diverse, laid back and has TONS of character. There is always something going on in Austin at any given moment. Two years ago I moved to Dallas-FT Worth and what a BIG difference between the two cities. Dallas is a dump. Nothing but wall to wall traffic and interstate with crazy drivers. The upside to dallas is real estate is not over priced. Texas in general is burnt, flat, hot and BIG. The Texas coast can NOT compare to NC....not even CLOSE. Wanna know the weird thing? I like Texas better then NC. I think the people are friendlier, there is more opportunity and Texas has better healthcare professionals. This is just my opinion from my experiences.

Right light rail in Dallas. You won't have to touch the interstate and the traffic.

I much prefer Texas, North Carolina just seemed very boring and in the eastern part and the western part seemed very hillbilly, but thats just in my opinion.
