If you had to choose between Miami or San Diego, where would you live?
Feel free to mention the reason(s) why....... not looking to make this into a negative feedback loop. Nothing wrong with frank assessments but no need to go postal either.....
I see two coastal cities tucked away in their respective far SE/SW corners of the continental USA.
San Diego because of the more amiable climate, IMO.
San Diego!!
Living currently in Miami (South Beach) after being in SD for the last 15 years. Like the beach and the warm water in Miami. Anyone seen how the beach looks like after a weekend, especially during the months from June through September? Trash, Trash everywhere...sad actually since this could be the jewel of south florida. Peoples total disregard for the environment!
SD is much cleaner, cheaper in many ways, friendlier and overall more realistic. Crazy whats going on in South Beach.
I think Miami is more fun and vibrant than San Diego, but I don't think I could deal with Miami's hot weather year long. San Diego is perfect all year long so I'd choose to live in San Diego. Now if we were talking about which city I would rather visit, it would be Miami by a mile.
Location: Los Angeles......So. Calif. an Island on the Land

You are correct about the state income tax and warmer ocean water in Miami; HOWEVER, I will dispute your other claims:
1. Bigger City?
-The City of San Diego has a population of approx. 1.2 million people. The City of Miami is approx. 400,000.
-San Diego County is approx. 3.0 million. Miami-Dade County is approx. 2.4 million.
-True that the San Diego MSA is 3.0 million b/c the cenusus limits the MSA to San Diego County only. Miami-Ft. Lauderdale MSA includes ADDITIONAL counties.
2. More to Do in Miami than San Diego? The only edge Miami has is in nightlife. Again, I'll point out that the City of San Diego has more people (nearly 3 times as many). As a consequence, San Diego has more cultural institutions, a more vibrant downtown, one of the best and largest downtown parks in the nation in Balboa Park, one of the best zoo's in the nation, and as many or more recreational actitivities than Miami.
3. International Hub? This is more of a minor disagreement. It is true that Miami has more international companies than SD. But don't forget SD shares an international border with Mexico. So I see this as more of a wash. Yes, San Diego is LESS diverse than say Los Angeles or Miami but its got pretty strong international connections including an international workforce that crosses a national border everyday......
