Hmm. I thought rowhouses were generally at least 3 or 4 stories. Each city has their own row houses style, none is more typical than another. So besides old large cities (Boston, DC, SF, NYC, Philly, Baltimore, Chicago, Pittsburgh) what other places have lots of row houses? I surprised to discover that the town I live in has a block or two of row houses. Was almost considering living in one.
They will be again. Trust me, we're seeing the same thing happening throughout the Philadelphia area where old houses are being restored to their former glory to an extent.
I'm not going to pick a city. I can't. I will lament the fact that so much great old architecture throughout Philadelphia was either demolished or allowed to go into disrepair (you would be amazed at some old pictures. They actually demolished entire neighborhoods for various things)
Since I saw somebody include Jersey City, I'm going to show you all a side of Upper Darby that you have probably never seen before.
The first picture is West Philly on Baltimore Ave.
The second picture is Upper Darby near the downtown. You can barely see the rowhouses but I love that picture.
upper darby rowhouse - Flickr: Search (http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=upper+darby+rowhouse - broken link) <-- great pictures of some various UD rowhouses.
When it comes to old architecture outside of Philadelphia, my favorite has to be Drexel Hill with all of the large stone houses but obviously that's not what this thread is about.
