Will be interesting to see how many cities, rather than states, people come up with. Here are a few for Boston:

The Kingston Trio, "Charlie on the MTA"

Dave Loggins, "Please Come to Boston"
(This one might seem obvious, but in fact there are three cities referred to in the song, with a verse for each city, the other two being Denver and L.A.)

There are probably a gazillion I'm not thinking of, but maybe the late hour is making my brain a little fuzzy, and I'm already down to references within songs rather than songs really about Boston per se . . .

"Now the first of December was covered with snow,
And so was the Turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston . . ."
(James Taylor, "Sweet Baby James")

"They're really rockin' in Boston . . ."
Chuck Bery, "Sweet Little Sixteen"

"When whoever's in New England's through with you,
When Boston finds better things to do . . ."
(Reba McEntire, "Whoever's in New England")

"Sweet things from Boston,
So young and willin'"
(Steely Dan, "Hey Nineteen")

And the part of the chorus from some song I heard one time on the radio in the '80's, which I think is a song maybe actually from the early '60's; wasn't paying close enough attention to catch the title or the performer, but the chorus went something like

"Talkin' 'bout Boston M-A-Double S-A-C-H-U-Double T-S"

I haven't forgotten about the one that I'm guessing most people would consider THE Boston song. Just saving the best, or at least most obvious, for last:

The Standells, "Dirty Water."

1. "Dallas" Allan Jackson
2. TV Theme song "Dallas"
3. "This Ain't Dallas" Hank Williams Jr.
4. "Tush" ZZ Top
5. "Big D" from Broadway show "Most Happy Fella":

My, oh Yes
I mean Big D, little a double l-a
Big D, little a double l-a
Big D, little a double l-a-s
And that spells Dallas
I mean it with no malice

But the rest of Texas looks a mess
When you're from Big D

Nice list....forgot the San Antonio reference in China Grove...very cool.

I'd add a song by GREEN on RED (a roots rock/alternative band from the 1980's Los Angeles scene) but I can't recall the name of the song....it had a San Antonio reference.......
