Wonder what people think of this. Most of these are primarily based around a campus/school, though a couple are also suburbs of a larger city but the immediate area is still centered around a school.

I went to College Park and love it but I have to say overall I like Charlottesville, VA the best followed by Chapel Hill NC despite these being rival schools. Charlottesville especially is a peaceful but fun town located in the Blue Ridge mountains.

Oops, I did overlook Colorado didn't I?

Surprised Boulder isn't on this list...even if it was, I would choose Athens, GA. I had some ridiculous times there.

none of my top 5 are on your list. ...

here you are:

ithaca, ny (cornell)
princeton, nj (princeton)
cambridge, ma (harvard/mit)
new haven, ct (yale)
evanston, il (northwestern)

my top 5 in no order is based on quality of institutions and quality of life there, not a binge drinking fest.

I would put Ann Arbor and Madison 6, 7, 8 berkeley on your list though. they have interesting vibes, pretty high QOL.
