RE: natural environment, consider the settings of Chi and LA if the cities weren't there. LA wins, hands down.

RE: built environment, in addition to skyline, consider streetscape, all neighborhoods. Chi wins, no contest.

Well for one, Chicago is "midwest", not "east coast". And you're beyond stretching the truth when saying LA has a fall anything similiar to the midwest or east cost.

Ha! My roommate is from LA and he told me his family honestly thought Chicago was essentially butted up against the East Coast.

The education system in this country is beyond sad.....

Tell him that Chicago is 900 miles from NYC. About 500 miles to the north east. Chicago is closer to the west, than it is to the east coast. Not saying closer to the west coast, but closer to what I'd consider to be "western" states.

Well I think they were just stating that we do have a fall in California although you are correct it's probably not even close to the midwest or East coast....but point is we still have one. We do have seasons in California but they are very mild compared to the rest of the nation.

Well obviously...the St. Louis Arch is the gateway to the west and IL and MO boarder.

But only a few species of trees turn color in autumn. Most trees\ plants are evergreen [eucalyptus, palms, citrus, pines, oaks, etc.]. I wish we did have a real autumn like Chicago because nothing really changes from season to season in LA.
