Of course there is a rival btw the D.C metro and Baltimore metro...always bumping heads comparing contrasting....my question is if MONEY was no object and you were forced to relocate to either area....which area would you prefer or think is better in terms of culture, things to do, recreation, and liveability or if you have visited both places b4 which would you prefer ...(niether is not an option).....

Bawlmer, hands down. All of the amenities of the area, at a slightly lower cost and without the D.C. attitude.

Both are cool, but I prefer DC.

I prefer Baltimore.
I like some of the neighborhoods in Baltimore more than any neighborhood in DC.

Is there a rivalry? I didn't think there was really one at all. I think of them as two cities that benefit from having each other nearby. After all, they're not at all alike economically; D.C. is one of the most white-collar cities in America whereas Baltimore still has a blue-collar feel to it. By being close to each other, they are able to serve their shared metro with more jobs and amenities (like DC's great museums and Baltimore's waterfront and aquarium).

Of course somebody who knows more than I do should feel free to correct me.

Ive lived in DC and in the area for awhile, and there really isn't a rivaly to speak of, you're right, thefriendlygod.

Of course, i prefer Baltimore, but love DC. Though I've always said, DC is no Baltimore

There is no real rivalry. DCers go to Baltimore all the time. AA's in DC think Baltimore is full of bamas and bizarro types but there is no beef.

The cities are already so interconnected (and will continue to grow together moreso over time), that I really view them as two faces of the same city. Similar to the Manhattan/Brooklyn kind of relationship. There is no beef between the cities. I work in DC but my job takes me into Baltimore once a week. We are really one area.

That being said, I wonder how long before the media markets become one? With the decline of print media (newspapers) and with the eventual decline of local TV news outlets (as everything goes cable/internet), is it really necessary for the major networks to have local affiliates in both DC and Baltimore? Most of the big local news stories are covered in both cities. The weather is the same. The Ravens/Redskins and Orioles/Nationals and other sports teams are covered in both areas. It's redundant to have a local NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, etc. in both DC and Baltimore and would save the major broadcasters some serious money.
