I think SF skyline is larger because the city is more dense and compact. SF is smaller compared to Dallas, by land area. Dallas is more spread out. SF has 46.7 sq mi of land and Dallas has 342 sq mi of land. I'm sure there's not alot of land in SF to build large suburban developments, so instead they building condo towers. That's the only way you can fit 815,358 people on 46.7 sq mi of land.

Aerial Pics of Downtown. (In the 70s and 80s they demolished alot of buildings for developments. The majority of the developments didn't happen. So they turned the land into parking lots)

How Dallas changed in 50 years

Look, both skylines can be argued as better, but I don't think anyone should say that one is "dominant" over the other and that this is "no contest".

Who gives a damn what anyone else thinks? If you prefer Dallas' skyline, you have good reason. To hell with the naysayers.

I think the Dallas skyline is fine the way it is. I like being able to see it from miles away without any landform getting in the way... But that's just opinion.
I agree with you. I like it better the way it is. No need trying to be somewhere it is not

So you guys honestly think Dallas is better than this? Are you guys squinting or something?

zoom in and look around a bit and at the detail...

Image removed (15,000+ pixels??). Image is FAR to large to display here without bogging everything down. Please provide a LINK only for large photos. See the room sticky for photo posting guidelines for the room: //www.city-data.com/forum/city-...e-posting.html

Aww, it is sad imagining what that area looked like before all that concrete

why don't people build more in ugly places

In that photo grapico posted, the natural scenery is fascinating and the cityscape is beyond awe-inspiring, but the actual skyline itself is not that impressive, IMO (and those who disagree can spare me the smart aleck back-talk, because I could care less ).

That's the problem with this thread, I'm hearing more "scenery" and "urbanity" arguments than discussions about the actual SKYLINES i.e. the buildings that line the sky.
