facebook was originally harvards online yearbook.
reddit was founded in medford, mass.

they are credited for both boston and san fran in this poll (albeit, more weight to san fran).

Detroit and the Big 3 just have a classic, timeless "American-made" aura (even if most cars sold here by them are no longer made here). The way they are tied together is very fascinating too.
