How many centuries ago were you here?

They are not separated by counties. Washtenaw County (Ann Arbor) borders Wayne County (Detroit) just as Oakland County (Pontiac) or Monroe County (Monroe) border Wayne Co.

"Miles and miles of forest and swamp" Please.
There is some woodland/wetland areas but there is far more suburbia between the two. Definitely no forests. And they are only about 42 miles apart. You can drive from one downtown to the other in less than 45 minutes.

If we are talking strictly city vs. city I would pick A2 but as far as general area I would pick the "D". We just moved to the Ann Arbor area from Oakland County last June and it was quite a change. Much slower pace in A2. We almost feel like we moved to the South! Also they are terrible drivers here. So many people drive like they just got their license last week.

Ann Arbor kind of feels like a urban inner city but Detroit is much more urban.like any other city Ann Arbor has it worst and best neighbored and some are nearly as danger as your average Detroit street yet Detriot is dirty and has some of the of dangers places in the country so I'll go with average ass Ann Arbor to insure my safety. sure you can be shot easily on the south-side of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti but in Detroit you'll get shot to death 1000 times more likely on the east side or the projects in Detriot

yes Ann Arbor has it rougher and safer areas to but in Detriot it a bigger difference.I pick Ann Arbor but to be cheap I'll move close to Ypsilanti

Ann Arbor seems like a cool town, but I'd prefer Detroit, probably.

Choose which Michigan city, Ann Arbor or Detroit, you would live in, if such opportunity arose. Plus, why would you pick this particular city over its peer?

Ford is headquartered in Dearborn, not Detroit.

Agreed. Ann Arbor is no more a suburb of Detroit than Toledo is a suburb of Detroit.

And the airport is on I-94. It's on the map and everything.

Well, about half of Detroit's population is functionally illiterate, so they certainly don't "know it all". They know very, very little in fact.
