Which city is more urban?

I am defining urban as it is typically though of in the NYC, Chi, Bos sense of the word: walkable, street-level retail, pub transit, dense housing, etc.

All of these cities really grew up in a time when suburban living (SF houses, malls, office parks) was in vogue. But, recently all seem to be making efforts to become a little more urban. I am thinking of areas like Uptown Dallas, Midtown Atl, etc.

Which is the furthest along in that process?

Never mind, I see there was a thread on this topic a few months ago.

Can't figure out how to shut it down.

Too close to call IMO. Although Atlanta's Beltline might give it the edge in the future.

I voted Dallas because Houston is just way way to spread out and feels very suburban to me compared to Chicago. Atlanta may feel more urban than Dallas but still voted for Dallas.

Houston has the most skyscrapers and the tallest skyline so I vote Houston. They're all pretty suburban though.

They both felt extremely spread out to me, but Houston has a more urban core.

So I suppose you think Houston is more urban than DC?

Skyscrapers and skylines have zero to do with urbanity.

I think it has something to do with it. I'm not as familiar with Atlanta, but Houston feels and looks a lot more urban than Dallas. It's much more centralized and has a lot of old urban historic districts and buildings. Either way, none of them are all that urban.

Dallas is competing with its suburbs compared to Houston. Houston has the biggest chance at having a vibrant downtown area between it and Dallas because of how many people are commuting into the city (inner loop) everyday. However, Dallas has much better urban planning and more competitive than Houston.

This is true. I think the new rail lines will help as well. It will do wonders for the city and I think it would be used more efficiently than Atlanta's or Dallas'.
