We've all heard it at one time or another...

you're moving THERE?
No one goes there and likes it...
That place is culturally devoid...
There's nothing to do there...

Which US city (top 20 by population in 2007) has the worst overall reputation?

My vote is for Houston. I love Houston now that I'm here but I cannot tell you how many people said I would hate and regret it before I moved. It is a terribly misunderstood place in my opinion. I'm guessing Detroit, Phoenix and Oklahoma City would be up there too....what do you think?

Probably Detroit. But I'm with you on Houston. But not for your reasons.

Going just be reputation: Detroit

Having only briefly visited the city, I can not make an honest assessment if Detroit deserves the bad reputation it does have.

Any of the Sunbelt boomers, take your pick.

I agree with you on Houston on C-D, but not in real life. I never hear anything but mostly positive things about it, but I'm not coming from a Northeastern point of view either.

But with some of the absolute nicest suburban areas in the U.S., believe it or not! Talk about a stark contrast.........
