Seattle has a fabulous natural setting with the mountains and the water, but both Los Angeles and San Francisco have more spectacular skyscrapers and larger skylines which puts them ahead. Seattle's skyline isn't actually very large.

1. Los Angeles
2. San Francisco
3. Seattle

the rest

San Fran will probably overtake L.A. after the new super-talls get built.

more iconic imo.
And I really hope all of our talls don't end up being the same square design in different heights.
Very true. I was rooting for the SOM design as well. It would have taken us to 1,375 ft. Oh well. Pelli has done some great designs all over the world (Petronas towers, 2IFC in Hong Kong, B of A in Charlotte). They say the design of the crown isn't 100% decided on quite yet, so there is still room to make a statement with a bold design.

2017 is the estimated completion, but in real terms probably 2020 or beyond.

Oh that's good news, because otherwise it's almost identical to the one in Hong Kong and Jersey City.
I also hope they go through will building Treasure Island up,it would add an interesting medium between Oakland/Emeryville and The City

Originally planned at 6,000 housing units, it's been upped to 8,000. No worries. The future is bright:

And lets not the addition of our new icon. the new eastern Span of the Bay Bridge (completion date 2013). There's going to be a lot of spectacular shots coming out of that.
By far, the largest SAS span bridge in the world:

Indeed it is!

Seattle has the largest and most impressive skyline on the west coast. I don't see whats so special about SF's skyline.

Did you have some pics posted here of the SF supertalls? I swear I saw them, but then they were gone.

I was wondering about these developments. How has the economy affected their ultimate completion?

I read that in '08, the heights were still being argued about, and reductions were anticipated.

Will these 1000 ft. + buildings ever be built?

San Francisco has 44 towers above 400 feet.

Seattle has 24 towers above 400 feet.

Thats a huge difference!
