I know I have bashed Charlotte for being boring but Austin can't wear Charlotte jock straps when it comes to skyline
True right now. There isn't any city in Charlotte's metro size that has as big a skyline. Charlotte with the new metro boundaries also has almost 500k more people. However, give Austin 5-10 years and that might change. Austin's skyline is going through an arguably bigger boom than has been seen before in the city (which is saying a lot) while Charlotte is still trying to recover. The biggest area where Austin will have a hard time matching is in the big office buildings. It just doesn't have the major bank HQ like Charlotte does, though that is also one of the main reasons why the recession didn't hit Austin as hard.
There are actually quite a few more than those listed including 400ft+ like Bowie. All of those buildings have started construction or cleared all permitting and will break ground in the next few months except picture 3. That one is up in the air and I would give it less than 50% chance of happening at the moment.
It makes me sad because its an amazing proposal using the old historic building for the lower facade. Unfortunately, the setback issues on Congress street due to the capital have killed quite a few projects. On the right side, there are quite a few historic buildings that the facade must at least be kept. However, the setback is so harsh that it isn't economically feasible to build anything unless variance is given or something changes.

Charlotte is about to get at least two more high rises to complement the new baseball stadium in downtown. I think once Austin gets to Charlotte's level, Charlotte would have moved to an even higher level.

Austin's really starting to look like a resort-type of city with residential and hotel towers dominating the skyline.
